Gurgaon aka Gurugram, also recognized as the “Startup Capital of India”, is a charming city located in Haryana, India. It’s a city full of expensive malls, sky-scraping apartments, metro connectivity, and the menu goes on. But our very own Gurgaon was never like this a few decades ago. To know the history of this beautiful city,  we have to dig in the past. 

For those who have just heard about it but never visited, Gurgaon or Gurugram is part of Haryana, a state of India, and also a part of the National Capital Region. It is located 268 km southwest of Chandigarh and 32 km southwest of New Delhi. Over the past few years, the city of Gurgaon has become the future home for every industrial and financial development. At this point, there are more than 350+ corporate offices in Gurgaon.

So, what is the history behind Gurgaon?

The story of growing Gurgaon begins from 1947 when this city became a part of independent India under Punjab. But in the year of 1966, the city was shifted under the administration of Haryana for better administration. 

Soon after becoming a part of the Haryana administration, Gurgaon started to move forward like a millennium city. The financial growth of the city rose with automobile maker Maruti Suzuki India Limited. A few years later, Gurgaon started to expand highways, metros, malls, markets, housing societies and much more. Today, the city is known to be one of the largest job providers, a hub for events & occasions and also an ideal place to live along with family & friends.

What’s so special about its location?

Gurgaon city is a part of the Gurgaon district, which is a part of the Indian state of Haryana. It is located in the southeastern part of Haryana & has the country’s favorite city, Delhi as well as New Delhi to its northeast. Moreover, Gurgaon lays over a total of 738.8 kms in width and is part of Northern India.

What’s the weather like?

The residents of Gurgaon experience four different types of climates during the year. These include Spring (February-March), Summer(April-August), Fall/Autumn(September-October) & Winter(November-January).

How does the city look like?

The structure of newly buildup corporate buildings, residential units and malls of Gurgaon known to people living in Delhi, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Noida. By and large, there are approximately 1500 residential high rise buildings in Gurgaon. The normal built-up area of apartments in Gurgaon varies between 700 to 1000 sq ft. At the same time, the average cost of flats on rent goes above INR 12,000 per month.

Moreover, the city of Gurgaon has 36 blocks, which have been additionally divided into blocks. The housing localities or societies have a number of apartments, condominiums and high rise residential units.

Corporate Sector

Corporate entrance in Gurgaon started during early 1970, with the establishment of Maruti Suzuki India Limited. As of now, there are more than 350+ offices in some of the major technical and corporate zones of Gurgaon. Bands like Google, Accenture, Expedia, Lenovo and other major players  of the world have their offices within Cyber Hub, Gurgaon.

Other major corporations such as Sun Pharma, Ashok Leyland, and Nikon have their corporate offices within the Industrial Area of Sector 32. A number of towers with major brands are also within Gurgaon. These include the Epitome, Signature and Time Square.

Noticeably, all corporate buildings and offices are part of major residential localities or societies of the city. As a matter of fact, these buildings are also next to famous residential localities with houses for rent. Some of these areas include DLF Phase 2, DLF Phase 3, MG Road, Golf Course Road and Sushant Lok 1.
